District of Innovation

The Leander ISD Board of Trustees approved a resolution to explore becoming a District of Innovation, allowing Leander ISD to explore flexibility with the school year calendar. (Board Meeting presentation)

In order to be granted these flexibilities related to the calendar, the district must adopt a District of Innovation plan. The plan will be developed by teachers and instructional staff from throughout LISD, along with parents, students and community representatives. The committee’s final plans must be approved by the LISD Board of Trustees.

A potential timeline for becoming a District of Innovation is:

Dec. 7, 2017 – A public hearing is held to consider if the district should develop a District of Innovation Plan. Board votes to appoint an innovation plan committee or decline to pursue District of Innovation status at this time.
